Good morning, friends! I’ve been on hiatus from the blog for a little while, but now I’m slowly getting back into gear and hope to bring you some more info next week. While I get things rolling again, I didn’t want to ignore the monthly Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day, hosted each month on the 15th by May Dreams Gardens.
Because it’s the middle of winter, I wasn’t sure exactly what I’d find to share with you all. And after a tour around our 1/2 acre yard, I found nothing blooming. <insert heavy sigh here> I’m longing for the springtime, honestly. I’m about done with cold air and brown gardens! But on my walks around the neighborhood, I did find two different places where flowers are blooming. I’ll take any cheery sight I can get, right?
First, I found this stand of shrubbery blooming cheery bright yellow blooms. I’m pretty sure it’s *not* forsythia, and I’m wondering if it might be witch hazel? What do you think? None of the other known forsythias in our yard or in the neighborhood have even a hint of buds swelling on them, so I’m pretty sure this isn’t forsythia.
And here’s a hillside covered in bright yellow flowers that are each no taller than 3″ off the ground. I think this might be Grecian Windflower? They are popping up in a hillside that in the summer is covered in Bishops Weed ground cover.
Whatever these two yellow flowers are, I certainly appreciate them each day when I’m out walking the dogs in the cold air and overcast grey skies.
There’s nothing blooming in our yard at all right now. I do see some patches of daffodils coming up with swelled up buds, so maybe next month I’ll be able to share some of those. For now, I’m just showing a new dining room faux flower arrangement that I put together quickly last week.
It’s made up of faux stems from Michael’s craft store. I used one bush of pale pink peony blossoms, and two bunches of dusty miller stems. I am really enjoying the color combo, but I’m not entirely sold on the way I’ve put them together. I was going for “loose and unstructured” but I think it came out kind of messy and unfinished looking. Maybe I’ll give it another go. Or maybe I’ll let it be and just enjoy the pretty colors.
Whats blooming in your yard or in your home right now? I’d love to hear about it, or even better yet, I’d love to see! Please join the party at May Dreams Gardens for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day!
